High School Musical
A CHRISTMAS STORY AUDITION INFORMATION
Auditions for Christmas Story will be this Tuesday, September 5th from 7:00 – 9:00 pm, and on Thursday, September 7th, from 4:00-6:00 pm, and from 7:00-9:00 pm. If you are auditioning, plan to have a ride. You only need to be at one of these audition sessions.
LEAD AUDITIONS:
- All Lead candidates will sing the following:
- Male Candidates: The Genius of Cleveland Street or Up On Santa’s Lap
- Female Candidates: Just Like That
- Youth Candidates: Red Ryder Carbine Action BB Gun
- A copy of the song and recording can be found in the Musical Google Classroom Site. Information on how to access the Google Site can be found below.
- Students auditioning for a lead will also be asked to read a section of dialog from the musical script. Copies of the possible readings can be found on the Google Classroom site under “HS Audition Materials”. While students do not need to memorize the sections of the script, it would be a good idea to review them ahead of time so they know what they will be reading.
ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS:
- Students auditioning for Ensemble will sing “My Country Tis of Thee” together as a group, and may be asked to sing part of the song individually.
- Students who completed a choir final last year may opt to use that final as their ensemble audition for musical. Please note that on your audition form.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
- Musical is November 17th and 18th
- These parts will be will require students to be at many evening, after school, and practices. Rehearsals will be Monday through Thursday either from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, or from 7:00 – 9:00pm, and Saturday afternoons from 2:00-5:00pm. While we will try to be accommodating as far as working around activity schedules, all cast members will need to be at the practices for which they are scheduled.
- Students having speaking/solo singing roles will need to be at more rehearsals than the students in the ensemble. Please consider this before auditioning

YOUTUBE CLIPS OF MUSIC:
NOTE: These are to be used as a guide. Some of the Lyrics are not the same as what are in the audition materials. If you have questions, see Mr. Luxbacher
- You are expected to check your email often for updates and schedule changes. New cast members will receive an email confirmation that they are signed up for the Musical Google Group. Students in last year’s production were retained on the list. Once all cast member emails are entered into the group, I will send an email to that effect. If you do not receive that email, or if a returning cast member email has changed, please notify me ASAP!
- All conflicts must be submitted in writing by updating your conflict calendar in the book (calendars will be given out at auditions). Please understand that if it is not written down in the book, it does not exist. Please do not expect other people to notify me of last minute schedule changes. Regardless of whether the conflict is last minute, or planned in advance, an email reminder is helpful to confirm your absence. Conflicts in the book will be considered excused absences.
- Students are expected to be at all practices to which you are assigned. I will do my best to make schedule changes far in advance, with the exception of personal emergency or weather. Students who miss more than one practice that is not on the conflict sheet will not participate in the musical.
- Cellphones, tablets, and other electronic devices are not to be on stage at any rehearsals or performances, unless cleared by the directors or choreographer ahead of time, and only in an emergency situation.
- All props, set pieces, costumes, and show related items are expected to be treated with a high level of care and respect. All costumes and props will be hung up and/or put away at the end of each rehearsal. Any damages to props or costumes are to be brought to the attention of Mr. Luxbacher or Mrs. Hutchinson as they happen. Any damage other than normal wear and tear will be the responsibility of the person who damaged the item.
- ALL LINES AND MUSIC WILL BE MEMORIZED BY NOVEMBER 1!
- TECH WEEK IS A NON-NEGOTIABLE. PLAN TO BE AT ALL REHEARSALS!
