Oil City Middle and High School Choirs

The Oil City Music Association (OCMA) is our parent organization, dedicated to supporting the music department in all of its activities, coordinating fundraising efforts for our students, and serving as an advocate for our program within the greater Oil City and Venango County community. Our first general meeting of the year will be held tomorrow evening, Monday, September 21, at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Choir Room. We will share updates on the start of the school year, outline plans for the months ahead, and elect officers for the 2026–2027 school year. Report time: 6:30 Dress Clothes under the robes (band will wear dress clothes as well) The ceremony is open to the public, and the public is invited to attend. Ceremony starts at 7:00 and should last about an hour. This is a concert grade for the second nine weeks. Students who need community service can complete a form for either one hour (band or or choir) or two hours (both band and choir). See Mr. Luxbacher if you didn’t complete a form or if you have questions.

It's Concert Week for the Middle and High School Choirs.   Here is the rundown for the week: THURSDAY, MAY 8th - MS Chorus Concert - 8th Grade Chorus Report Time 6:30 pm - Report to the Choir Room - Concert Begins at 7:00 pm (Admission Free) - Dress: same as the holiday concert.  Black pants, white shirt, and dress shoes.  Guys should have a tie, and for the ladies, tie or scarf are optional.  If students are in need of any concert clothing, please let me know, or have them let me know Monday, and I will work with our clothing closet at the middle school to get it for them.   - This is a required concert, and 35% of their nine weeks grade.   SATURDAY, MAY 10th - HS Swing Out - Report Time 7:00 pm  - Concert Begins at 7:30 pm (Admission $2 per person) - Dress: Dress clothes under the robes - This is a required concert, and 35% of their nine weeks grade.   - We are in need of a few parents to work the ticket booth for the concert...

Trip Intent Forms for the HS Music Department Trip to Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge, Tennessee went out to students today. All forms (whether the student is going or not) are due back to Mr. Cartwright and Mr. Luxbacher by Tuesday, October 15, 2024. If your student is going on the trip, a down payment in the amount of $190 should accompany the form. Statements of account will be coming out tomorrow for students who have money in their OCMA accounts. Students interested in participating in either Jr. High District Chorus (Grades 7-9 - November 22nd at DuBois MS), or Sr. High District Chorus (Grades 10-12 - February 5-7 at River Valley HS) must turn in their financial responsibility form in by the end of the day Friday, September 27th, to be considered for the events.  Link to the form is below.  Contact Mr. Luxbacher with any questions. The High School Choirs will be singing the National Anthem and Alma Mater at the OC vs. Grove City Game this Friday Night, September 27th. Report Time: 6:00 in the High School Choir Room (Football, Cheerleaders, and Concessions will meet us at the field) Dress: Nice Blue Jeans (minimal holes), Tennis Shoes, Oil City Top. If no Oil City top, please wear straight blue, white or grey (no big logos) Performance Time: Approximately 6:40-6:45 pm. Parents should be in their seats by this time to see the students perform. Release: After Pre-Game. Students not staying for the game can be picked up at the Stadium around 7:00. This is a required performance (35% of the first nine weeks grade).       The Oil City Music Department is a very active group, and the directors and music teachers are extremely dedicated to their respective programs.  However, they are in need of parent support, in the form of volunteers, organizational talents, and as a vocal influence on policymakers and administrators, to “spread the word,” if you will, about the positive things going on in our music department, which not only benefit your children, but the community as a whole.      Being a citizen in the Oil City Area School District, and/or having a student in the band, choir, or musicals allows you to be a member of our organization.  You can be as active as you desire, with our general meeting twice a year, and most committees meeting rarely at the discretion of the board and directors.        The Oil City Music Association will hold a parents' meeting   on this Monday, September 16th at 6:00 pm   in the high school choir ro...

 The Oil City Music Association is coordinating a Gahr's Hamloaf fundraiser for all band and choir students grades 8-12.  Please note this is an optional fundraiser.  All fundraiser forms and money are due by Friday, September 20th.  Students will receive 35% of all items sold for their OCMA Accounts.  See Mr. Luxbacher or Mr. Cartwright with questions.   JR. HIGH DISTRICT CHORUS: GRADES 8 AND 9 ONLY Jr. District Chorus will be held January 15, 2024 at Indiana Junior High School.  The guest conductors for the festival are Paul Seymour, retired choral director from Central Cambria High School, and Wendy Jo Nagy, retired choral director from Hollidaysburg Area School District.  This is a one day festival, with our group going down early in the morning, rehearsing through the day, and putting on a concert in the evening that your parents are invited to see. SR. HIGH DISTRICT CHORUS: GRADES 10-12 ONLY District Chorus will be held January 24-26, 2024 at Freeport High School.  The guest conductor for the festival is Mr. Fran Nesta, former choir director at Keystone High School.  We will be staying at Freeport this year, rather than commuting.
