Video of the Week - No Time

This week, we look at one of the possible pieces for next year's holiday concert.  No Time is a women's piece that comes from the camp meeting tradition.  Camp meetings were revivalist services that incorporated gospel music, jazz, traditional spirituals, and hymns into the service.  No Time is a lyrical ballad, with the women in four parts.  At this time, this is a possible lead-in to the candlelit processional.

BASED OFF OF THE PMEA RUBRIC IN YOUR FOLDER, EVALUATE THE CHOIR'S PERFORMANCE

  1. The Milwaukee Choral Artists are a professional, all female choral ensemble from Wisonsin.  What do you notice about their posture, their sound, and their accuracy that might lead you to believe that they are all professional musicians?
  2. The piece was recorded in a large church at Concordia University in Wisconsin.  Even though the room echos a lot, can you understand their words.  Why or why not?
  3. What do you think of the piece?  Is this something that fits the style of what we do?  If you are a middle school chorus member, is this something that we can accomplish within the course of a concert season?
  4. Using some of the descriptors on the adjudication form, what is different about the sound of an all-female group from that of a mixed chorus (Women and Men together)?  What are some of the challenges that need to be overcome to perform a piece effectively with all higher voices?
  5. Be sure to answer the questions using some of the terminology on the adjudication form provided to you in class.

Compose your answers in 1-2 paragraphs of approximately 5-8 sentences, and submit either online at:
