OIL CITY 150 CEREMONY - SUNDAY, APRIL 11 INFORMATION

The Oil City 150 committee has invited the Oil City High School Band, and the Oil City Middle / High School choirs to participate in the Oil City 150 Kickoff Ceremony, to be held on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Justus Park.  This is exciting for us in multiple ways.  First, it is an honor to be invited to participate in this historic commemoration detailing the history of our community.  Secondly, this marks the first public performance for the Oil City Music Department since the holiday concerts in December 2019.  We hope that you and your student will thoughtfully consider participating in this event.

If you student chooses to participate, I would ask that they arrive at Justus Park by noon, so that we may setup our seating area and perform a sound check for the ceremony.  Students are asked to wear dress clothes, as this is a formal ceremony, and students will need also need a chair and a face mask.  If you do not have appropriate clothing or a chair to send them with, please contact me before April 1, and we can arrange for students to get those items prior to the ceremony.  Once we complete sound check, there will be a short amount of down time for students to walk to McDonald’s if they choose to get food, or they can spend their time at the park.  The ceremony will begin at 1:00 PM with the tolling of the church bells around the city and should last approximately two hours.  Speakers are to include State Senator Scott Hutchinson, State Representative Lee James, and U.S. Representative Glenn Thompson, along with many other dignitaries and speakers from the local community. All students will be performing the National Anthem to open the ceremony, as well a musical setting of the Pledge of Allegiance at the end.  High School Band and Choir will also perform additional selections throughout the ceremony. This event is open to the public, and parents and guardians are welcome to attend.

Letters will come out in the Choir Classes tomorrow with further information.  If you student will be participating, please detach the bottom of the letter and return to school by Wednesday, March 31st.  Contact Mr. Luxbacher with further questions.
