District Chorus Auditions 2017

Students grades 10-12 planning on auditioning for District Chorus this year MUST have the PMEA Student Policy Acceptance Form and PMEA Medical Form completed and turned in by Thursday, October 6th. Forms are on the blog festival info page and can be filled out and saved to your computer. Please print, sign and return to Mr. Luxbacher on or before the 6th. Students not submitting paperwork by the 6th will not be permitted to audition.

Auditions will be heard starting now up until Thursday, October 13th. Students will audition with the solo version of Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus. Students auditioning for Soprano or Tenor should use the High Part, with Altos and Basses using the low. Pronunciation guide, learning track for melody, and accompaniment track are on the site to help you learn the part. Please see Mr. Luxbacher if you have any issues dowloading and using the tracks. Students will be ranked based on their performance of this piece. Many model versions of the solo can be found online.

A few things to remember:
  • Students are selected for District Chorus by a draft system. Students are ranked by their director, and are selected to the chorus in that order, barring any last minute changes. While Mr. Luxbacher will try to get as many Oil City students as he can into the chorus, there are no guarantees.
  • Any student selected for the festival must realize this is both a financial commitment for the district and a time commitment for both you and Mr. Luxbacher. Students must be willing to commit to learning the folder and participating in the festival to the highest standards possible. It is an honor to be selected to these groups, and lack of preparation will not be tolerated.
  • Students selected for the festival will be required to be at the festival in its entirety, and perform in the final concert. Students will not be excused from parts of the festival for sports, classes, or any other reasons barring illness and family emergency, and then only at the discretion of the host, and District Festival coordinator.
  • Students performing in District Chorus will stay in a local hotel in the Marion Center/Indiana Area. Student meals will be covered, with the exception of any food above and beyond what is offered by the host school. Special Dietary needs will be met as required.
