REMINDER: CHANGE IN MS HOLIDAY CONCERT DATE

Due to scheduling conflicts, we will be holding the MS Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 12th at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium.  Admission is Free. Report time will be 6:30 for students.  Dress will be black pants, white top, and dress shoes.  Men are encouraged to wear a tie.  For women, ties and holiday scarves are optional.  Contact Mr. Luxbacher, Mr. Brown, or Mr. Cartwright with and questions.

Parent Teacher Conference Form / Information

I am putting together my schedule together for the upcoming parent teacher conference day on Friday, November 8th.  If you would like to meet with me to discuss your student's progress, feel free to fill out the attached form, and I will get back to you with an exact time.  If you are unable to attend, but would still like to discuss your student's progress, I will contact you at the phone or email address provided on the form during that day.  As always, I am available through email or phone if you have any questions or concerns. REMINDER: HOMECOMING PERFORMANCE TONIGHT!

Homecoming Performance Tonight, Friday, September 27th - Choir Report Time is 5:45 in the choir room - Dress is Blue Jeans, Tennis Shoes, Oil City Logo Top, or Straight, Blue, White or Grey Top. - We will sing the National Anthem and Alma Mater as part of the Homecoming Pregame Festivities. - This is a required Performance (35% of the first nine weeks' grade) - Contact Mr. Luxbacher with questions.

OCMA General Membership Meeting - Monday, September 9th

Oil City Music Association will hold its semi-annual general membership meeting Monday night, September 9th, at 6:00 pm in the HS Choir Room.  All parents and guardians of Oil  City Middle and High School bands and choirs (and Cranberry and VC members of the OMB) are invited to attend!  Contact Chris Huff or Elizabeth Ames with questions.

REMINDER: Rhapsody Retreat this Wednesday

We will have our annual Rhapsodies Retreat this Wednesday, August 21 st , from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm in the choir room.  Pizza and drinks will be provided.  You are welcome to bring chips or other snacks to share.  If you need to be in and out due to practices and such, so please let Mr. Luxbacher know ASAP.  See you Wednesday!

A wonderful day of music today at the Franklin Blues and Barbecue festival.  A great performance by Un4Gettable.  Thanks to Max Shang, Doug Volmrich, Chip Abramovic, and all of the organizers of the festival for allowing us to perform and for their continued commitment to supporting music in the local schools.  Here’s to many more!

Small Ensemble Audition Results

Thank you to everyone who auditioned for the Quartets and Rhapsodies for the coming year.  The quality of the auditions was very high, and led to some hard decisions, especially in the quartets.  I think I have everyone included who submitted a recording and auditioned live for Rhapsodies.  If your name is not on the list for Rhapsodies, and you auditioned, please email me, and I will check my files again.   QUARTETS: Rehearsals for the coming year will take place starting in August.  Please keep an eye on your school email for updates and information. Senior Choir Report Times for Baccalaureate and Graduation

Report time for Senior Choir is 5:00pm.  Report for Thursday's Baccalaureate will be in the choir room.  Report for graduation will be on the football field.  You will need cap and gown for both.  Contact Mr. Luxbacher with questions.

OCMA Picnic Inside Tonight

Due to the possibility of inclement weather,  we will be holding the picnic tonight in the high school cafeteria starting at 5pm.  Everything else will be the same.  Hope you can make it!

OCMA Spring Picnic 2019

The Oil City Music Association will be hosting the annual spring music department picnic on Tuesday, May 28th at 5:30 pm in the OCMS Pavilion.  OCMA will provide fried chicken, drinks, and tableware.  Please bring folding chairs and a dish to share.  We are asking each class to provide the following: MS, Sophomore, and Senior Families - Bring a Side Dish or Salad Freshmen and Junior Families - Bring a Dessert Seniors will be recognized following dinner.  Please join us for an evening of celebrating the end of a great year, and contact Mr. Luxbacher or Mr. Cartwright with questions.

Trip Review Meeting

We will be having our trip review meeting for those students going on the Williamsburg trip this Thursday, April 18th at 6:30 pm in the High School Auditorium.  All parents and students going on the trip are highly encouraged to attend.  We will be reviewing  trip  policies and the itinerary, as well as answering any questions you may have about the upcoming  trip  to Virginia.  In addition, we will have a chaperone meeting immediately following the  trip   review , and should be done by 8:00 pm.  Contact Mr. Luxbacher or Mr. Cartwright with questions.

Night of A Cappella 2019

Oil City High School Music Department presents its 9th Annual Night of A Cappella tomorrow night, Saturday, April 13th, at 7:30 pm in the high school auditorium.  Tickets are $2 and can be purchased at the door.  Featured groups include Impromptu from Slippery Rock University, Fast Forward, The Rocky Grove High School Select Choir, The Franklin High School Madrigals, and Oil City High School groups Change of Tone, Un4Gettable, and The Rhapsody in Blues.  A spaghetti dinner will be held from 4-7 the same night in the high school cafeteria in support of Colton Sutley, an Oil City High School choir member who is currently battling cancer.  Tickets are $7 for that event.  Come out for a full evening of food, friendship, and music!

OCMA Officer Elections for Remainder of 2018-2019

The results of this election will determine the OCMA Officers for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year.  A new election will take place in late August to set the board for the 2019-2020 School Year.  All parents of current OCMS and HS Band Members are eligible to vote / run for office.  Please vote either the officers as listed, or a write-in candidate of your choice (write-ins should be a member of a current OCMS/OCHS Student. Thank you to all of the current and alumni choir members who came out last night to perform the National Anthem and Alma Mater for the Oil City VS Cancer Benefit Game last night.  It's always a wonderful thing when a community can come together and help each other.  Have a great weekend!

Alumni Basketball Game Fundraiser - Friday, March 15th

As many of you know there is an alumni basketball game scheduled for this Friday night, March 15th, at 7:00 in the high school gym. The proceeds from this game will be split three ways, between the family of Eric Lendrum, a 2010 alumnus who recently passed from a rare form of cancer (his wife, Abby, was a member of the choir throughout high school), the family of Colton Sutley, a current member of the bass section, who is beginning treatments to combat cancer in his lung and leg, and the Kirtland Cancer Foundation, which provides support for families of patients undergoing cancer treatment. We are organizing a choir of current students and alumni to sing the National Anthem and Alma Mater for this game.  Report time would be 6:15 in the auditorium, with performance of the National Anthem and Alma Mater around 6:55 in the gym.  As this is a fundraiser for the cause, participants will need to purchase a ticket to the game if they wish to stay past the performance, and we hope that yo

OCMA - Final Call for Board Elections

Ballots for the OCMA election of officers will be coming out at the end of the week.  All positions on the board are open (candidates have been procured for many of the offices, but we can always have more than one), and we are especially in need of members at large for the current year ending July 1.  All parents of OCMS and OCHS Band and Choir students are eligible to volunteer for office.  Please contact Mr. Luxbacher at sluxbacher@mail.ocasd.org if you are willing to volunteer.

Hoagie Pickup Today!

Just a quick reminder that today is hoagie pickup from 3-5 in the high school AUDITORIUM (note change of location).  Park in the auditorium parking lot and come in the front auditorium doors.  Follow signs down the music hallway to the stage for pickup.  Please do not enter the building until 2:45.  Contact Mr. Cartwright or Mr. Luxbacher with questions.

District Chorus 2019

Congratulations to Courtney Crabtree, Lindsey Crabtree, Alex Dobson, Korey Felmlee, Katie Fye, Layla Hollis, Brandon Huff, Shanay Jackson, Josh Masters, and Cassidy Webb who are participating in the 2019 District 3 Chorus Festival at Armstrong High School.  All are representing us well, and five students will be progressing to the Region Chorus Festival, with Layla, Katie, and Courtney chairing 1st, 2nd, and 4th in their respective sections. So much Oiler Pride!

OCMA Parent Meeting - Monday, February 11th

OCMA NEEDS YOU!!! The Oil City Music Association will hold a parents's meeting on Monday, February 11th at 7:00 pm in the high school choir room.  The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss upcoming projects of the association as well as to elect officers to the OCMA Board.  All parents of current OCASD Band and Choir Members are welcome to attend as well as any community member interested in the long term viability of the school music program.  Please contact Mr. Cartwright, Mr. Cartwright, OCMA President Chris Huff, or Vice President Elizabeth Ames with any questions.

Choir Pictures and Band Makeup Pictures - Tuesday, January 29th.

Jim Ellis from Jim Ellis Photography will be at school on Tuesday, January 29th to take group and individual shots for the yearly choir composite, and do make up pictures for the band students who were not available during band camp.  Students and parents wishing to purchase photos should print out and complete the form attached and bring it with payment on Tuesday to give to Mr. Ellis. Jr. District Chorus CANCELLED - January 21, 2019

Just received the call that Jr. District Chorus has been postponed to May 18th due to weather.    No festival tomorrow.
