CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to the Oil City Middle and High School Bands and Choirs for a series of excellent Holiday Concerts.  You have much to be proud of, and we are very proud of you!  Have a great holiday break!

High School Holiday Concert - Wednesday, December 18th

After cancelling due to weather, Oil City High School Music Department is proud to present its 2013 Holiday Concert Wednesday, December 18th, at 7:30 pm in the High School Auditorium.  Admission is a canned good or non-perishable food item.

Concert Dress - Wednesday's HS Holiday Concert

There's been some questions about dress for Wednesday Night's concert, especially with members who are in Band and A Cappella.  Here is what you need to wear: Concert Choir: Black and White.  Ties for Men, Scarves optional for women Women's Choir:  Dress Clothes Under the Robes Long and Short of It: Black Dresses 4Ward On!: Black with Red Ties Rhapsody in Blues: Formal Uniform (Blacks and Blues) Concert Band: Band Uniforms (A Cappella Members who are in Concert Band will wear their band uniforms under the robes, and will not need dress clothes) 5 Day A Cappella: Dress Clothes Under the Robes See Mr. Luxbacher or Mr. Cartwright with questions.

HS Holiday Concert

Due to the weather, and the iffiness of the backroads and sidestreets, we have decided to postpone this evening's holiday concert until Wednesday, December 18th at 7:30 pm. 

High School Holiday Concert

As of right now, tonight's holiday concert is still on for a 7:30 start (report time for performers is 6:45).  A decision will be made at 6:00 should we need to postpone. Information will be posted on the choir and band social media pages.

HS Holiday Concert 2013

The Annual High School Holiday Concert will take place tomorrow night (Saturday, December 14th) at 7:30 pm in the high school auditorium.  Admission is a canned good or non-perishable food item which will be donated to local charities.  The concert will also be live streamed at www.ocasd.org.  Click OCASDTV to access the stream.  Report time for choirs is 6:45 pm.

Choir Tours - Friday, December 13th

Here is the final plan for Friday’s choir tours: Concert and Women’s Choirs will be excused after morning announcements on Friday for the elementary tour.  Students are responsible for seeing teachers for any missed work, and may make up any in class assignments on the following Monday during their choir period.  Students will be out of school from period 1 (7:40) to the beginning of period 7, with the plan to return at approximately 11:50.  Any student who is scheduled for lunch periods 5 and 6 will eat 7th. Members of A Cappella Choir, Rhapsody in Blues, and Quartets will be dismissed at the end of period 7 (12:28) for their performance at the Belle Lettres Club.  Students again are responsible for seeing teachers for any missed work, and may make up any in class assignment on the following Monday during their choir period. Dress Rehearsal - Thursday, December 12th

Reminder that all members of the high school band and choirs will rehearse for Saturday night's holiday concert tomorrow, Thursday, December 12th, during period 4.  Choir members should report immediately at the end of period 3 to their surround positions (A Cappella - Front Risers, Women's Choir - Rear Processional positions, Concert Choir - Sides (we will go over in the morning)).  You should be back in class by the beginning of 5th period.

Guys and Dolls - Cast List

          Cast list for Guys and Dolls has been posted to the Choir Website.  IF YOU AUDITIONED FOR THE SHOW, AND YOUR NAME DOES NOT APPEAR ON THE CAST LIST BELOW SOMEWHERE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP! Musical Auditions - Final Chance!

Christmas Caroling at Oil City Christmas Past - This Friday, December 6th

We have been invited again by the city to participate in Christmas Caroling on Friday, December 6th as part of Oil City's Christmas Past Celebration. Report Time would be 5:45 at the Morrison's Funeral Home to lead Santa into Central Avenue Plaza, and we will be done by 7:30. 2 hours of community service will be awarded for this event. Trinity Concert - TODAY!

A Cappella Choir, Rhapsody in Blues, and the Women's and Men's Quartets proudly present their annual Thanksgiving  Concert today at noon at Trinity UMC.  We will be paying tribute to the Oil City Kiwanis Club and Dr. James Schwab.  Concert is free and open to the public.

CHOIRMASTER AUDITIONS - EXTENDED

To give everyone enough time to prepare for the interviews, I have decided to move Choirmaster/mistress interviews to the week of November 18th.  In addition, I would like to invite any students interested in auditioning to attend a brief class on Thursday, November 14th during 4th period grad project.  See me for a pass.  Interviews will follow same format as before with the addition of conducting an excerpt of music.  See me with questions.

Choirmaster Auditions

Interviews for Choirmaster/Choirmistress for Concert, Women's, and A Cappella Choir will take place the week of November 11 th .  Interested parties should reserve a time with Mr. Luxbacher sometime during that week.  Available times are 4 th period Thursday, 6 th period, and 10 th period. Interviews will consist of singing a selection of the concert music a cappella (Alma Mater), conducting a piece of recorded (Set Me As A Seal) and live music (National Anthem), as well as answering a few interview questions.  It should not take any longer than 10-15 minutes. Final Results should be ready by Friday, November 15 th . Position Description: The position of student choirmaster/mistress will be decided by an  audition/interview process, in which students will demonstrate their ability to conduct, sing, and successfully answer questions regarding leadership. Congratulations to the A Cappella Choir for a great performance today at the Clarion University Choir Festival!

Clarion Choir Festival 2013

A Cappella Choir will be dismissed at 7:45 am tomorrow (Thursday) to participate in the 9th Annual Clarion University Choir Festival.  The festival begins at 9:30 at Marwick-Boyd Auditorium.  Lunch is being provided by the University.  Dress clothes will be worn under the robes.

Medical Forms Due Tomorrow

Medical Forms for all choir members are due tomorrow (Friday, October 18th).  Please make sure that all member ID's and Group #'s are included in your proof of insurance. New School Requirement - Proof of Medical/Accident Insurance

At the last school board meeting, it was decided that all students participating in extra-curricular activities must show proof of medical insurance in the event of accident.  Students that do not currently have accident insurance are encouraged to participate in the school district's insurance plan.  Forms can be picked up in the High School Office.  Students in all choirs are to complete the attached medical form and return to Mr. Luxbacher no later than Friday, October 18th.  Forms will be kept on file during the school year and will either be returned or shredded at the end of the year.  See Mr. Luxbacher with questions.  Since choirs perform after school hours, we have been asked to participate in this new policy. REMINDER - CLUBS CHOICE DUE TOMORROW

Venango Youth Choir

A new semester of Venango Youth Choir is beginning again, under the direction of Mrs. Beth Orris.  Rehearsals will be from 4:00-5:30 on Mondays starting October 21st.   All rehearsal are at Good Hope Lutheran Church (at the top of Moran Street).  E mphasis for this semester will be on singing "Lessons", reading music, and traditional Christmas music. A concert and community caroling will take place on December 21st weekend.  The choir is free to kids from grades 3 to 8.  Brochures will be in the choir room later this week, and if you are interested, contact the church at 676-9122 and ask to speak with David Mayer.  Email inquiries can be sent to Mrs. Orris at orris@zoominternet.net .

Clarion University Choir Festival 2013

A Cappella Choir has been invited once again this year to participate in the Clarion University Choir Festival, which will be held at Marwick-Boyd auditorium on Thursday, October 24th.  Information can be found here .  Please print, read, sign, and return to Mr. Luxbacher by Tuesday, October 22nd.

District Chorus 2014

District Chorus Auditions are this week.  All paperwork was sent by email, and must be completed and turned in at time of audition.  Email Mr. Luxbacher if you did not receive it.  All auditions and paperwork must be completed by Friday, October 11th.

Alumni Choir Update!

A slight change to the Alumni Weekend set list.  Unfortunately, Mr. McConnell will not be guest conducting on the concert, due to some health issues that have come up (nothing serious, and I'm still working on him to maybe come and conduct the alma mater at the end...), so we will be substituting the Alfred Reed Pledge of Allegiance in the place of Echo Song.  Music and learning track CD will be on its way Monday!

Oil Heritage Festival Parade

Dr. Carrico would like to invite all current and class of 2013 choir and musical cast members to participate in this year's Oil Heritage Parade.  The school district is sponsoring a float, and would like to have members of the various school organizations ride and walk with the float.  Report time would be between 3:45 and 4:00 Saturday (July 27th) on West First between Orange and Moran Streets (OCASD Float is #6 in the parade, and should be close to Innis Street).  Dress is Blue and White (Musical Cast should wear their show shirts from Crazy for You).  Email Mr. Luxbacher by 2:00 Friday, July 26th if you are planning on participating.

Swing Out 2013 - Rebroadcast

May 17th's Swing Out will be broadcast on Venango Video this Sunday, May 26th, at 1:30 pm.  This week's band concerts will be broadcast next Sunday at the same time.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! - OIL CITY HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI BAND AND CHOIR!

After many months of planning, we are happy to announce that the first, hopefully soon to be annual, Oil City High School Alumni Band and Choir concert will take place during homecoming weekend this fall (weekend of September 27th).  Tentative plans are to invite alumni band and choir members to sing the National Anthem and Alma Mater with the current band and choir at the football game Friday night, rehearse the choir Saturday afternoon, rehearse band Sunday afternoon, and have a 4:00 concert Sunday.  Stay tuned for further details on how you can get involved!

The choirs of Bloomsburg University of PA will perform a free concert today at 4:30 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Franklin.  Haleigh McDonald (class of 2012) will be performing with their women's choir.  Donations will be accepted at the end of the concert, with proceeds going to the ABC Pregnancy Center.

Thursday is the Big Day! Off to DC! If any OC alums are in the Winchester, VA or Washington DC area, come see us perform! OMB performs Saturday at the Apple Blossom Grand Parade, and choir sings Sunday at 3:30 pm at the Washington National Cathedral.
