Rhapsody in Blues Audition 2016-2017

2016 – 2017 SCHOOL YEAR

Auditions will take place from May 20 – May 25th. Auditions will take place during choir period, unless another time is desired.  Students auditioning for RIBs are asked to prepare the audition selection (Most Wonderful Time of the Year – sheet music and learning tracks can be found below) so they can sing it well a cappella with at least one other person from a different voice part (you must sing with at least one other person that does not share your voice part, and you may sing with up to a quartet, one on each voice part (SATB)).  Consideration will be made for those who can hold pitch well throughout their audition, and sing in a strong, healthy voice.

YOU MUST BE SCHEDULED FOR A CHOIR (CONCERT CHOIR, WOMEN’S CHOIR, A CAPPELLA CHOIR) TO PARTICIPATE IN R.I.B.’S AND QUARTETS.  STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN GRADES 8-11 ARE ELIGIBLE TO AUDITION.

EXPECTATIONS FOR RHAPSODY IN BLUES MEMBERSHIP
2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR

·         A Member of Rhapsody in Blues should have a basc knowledge of:
    • Reading music (note direction, skips, steps, leaps, dynamics, rhythms, concept of beat and tempo)
    • Basic musical styles (jazz, rock, blues, etc.)

·         A Member of Rhapsody in Blues should be able to:
    • Hold pitch on their own and in groups (homogeneous and heterogeneous groups)
    • Match pitch
    • Show a wide dynamic range
    • Learn independently, with and without learning tracks
    • Develop a personal practice schedule
    • Move with music in a convincing way that goes with the style of the music
    • Switch parts depending on song
    • Blend within a section / within the group

·         Rhapsody in Blues rehearsals will take place during the activity period 4 days a week (Period 10 M,T,Th,F).  Students must be able to be in RIBs at least two days a week to be able to participate (this may rule out some Freshmen and Sophomores from participating) – This is including other organizations that meet during the 10th period during the school year. 


·         Students will need to keep a passing GPA in all classes to perform in the chamber ensembles, AND maintain regular attendance.  Students not maintaining adequate GPA or going over 10 unexcused absences will be dismissed from the group.
